Abstract:

The high-speed parallel computing system, known as the Earth Simulator, was manufactured by NEC to resolve global environmental problems. At present it is the most powerful computer manifactured. During the last couple of years Jesper has developed software for this computer (and other parallel computers). In his presentation he will tell us about the architecture of the Earth Simulator (e.g., it has 5 000 processors), and compare it to other high-speed computers. You can read more about the Earth Simulator from

http://www.nec.co.jp/press/en/0005/3001.html

The presentation has two parts. First a video film (30 minutes) on the Earth Simulator will be shown, and thereafter Jesper will answer to the questions posed by the audience. The film is in German, and Jesper will use Danish or English depending on the wishes of the audience.
