The CPH STL
The CPH STL project

Survey assignment

The focus in this course has been on software construction. The teachers lectured on the topics they found particularly interesting and you were given an opportunity to cover some additional material in the presentations. The purpose of this assignment is to dive even deeper into one particular topic of your own choice. More precisely, your task is to write a survey on a topic related to software construction that you find interesting. The topic can be one that deserves further exploration, one that only obtained cursory attention, or one that was omitted by us altogether. We expect that you select the topic by yourself, but of course you are welcome to draw inspiration from the teachers and your fellow students.

The survey should be written using the DIKU-article LaTeX style, and its length should be at most 12 pages. Be careful you mention your main sources in the list of references. In particular, try to explain the topic using your own words and your own examples; avoid plagiarism!

Recall that the weight of this assignment is 30% of the final grade. Claus will read and evaluate all surveys. He will give you brief feedback by e-mail (before the oral exam). However, you will not receive the actual grade points achieved since grading will be done as an integrated whole. The three best surveys will be invited to a survey collection which will be published as a CPH STL report. Additionally, each author will get a CPH STL T-shirt so, please, give your size (XXXL, XXL, XL, L, M, S) in a comment on the ISIS page when handing in the survey. After the course, you can use the survey as a starting point for a written project, a master's thesis, or a scientific study.

The philosophy of this course has been that "we learn much faster and much better with the active cooperation of others" [1, p. 5.i]. In compliance with this, we arrange a workshop on the 11th of April (at 9.00 - lunch, in Lille auditorium) where each student can present his or her survey to others (15 minutes per student). It is voluntary (but highly recommended) to present the survey at this workshop. After the workshop, we close the course with a joint lunch offered by the PE-lab. The course evaluation will be performed in connection with the lunch.
