Computational Biology

Headed by Professor Pawel Winter, Dept. Computer Science at the Universityof Copenhagen (DIKU).

Bioinformatics and Computational Biology are interdisciplinary fields that apply techniques of computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, and biochemistry to solve biological problems. Following the definitions of National Institute of Health (USA), bioinformatics is ''research, development, or application of computational tools and approaches for expanding the use of biological, medical, behavioral or health data, including those to acquire, store, organize, archive, analyze, or visualize such data.'' Computational biology is concerned with ''development and application of data-analytical and theoretical methods, mathematical modelling and computational simulation techniques to the study of biologial, behavioral, and social systems.''
