Aasa Feragen revieces DKK 520.000 from the Lundbeck Foundation
The research area of Aasa Feragen is in the mathematical foundations of analysis of tree-like shapes in images. This can be used in medical image analysis, for instance for investigation of vein calcifications, smoker's lungs or cancer vascularization.
Statistical shape analysis is an important branch of image analysis, where geometry, statistics, computer science and biology play together. The mathematical theory of shape analysis has seen a lot of development in the past 10 years. It is also an active research area at the eScience center, where Aasa Feragen is working with shapes that have a tree-like structure.
The theoretical results will be tested continuously in cooperation with the more clinically oriented projects in the group, and the aim is to help develop better image analysis tools for making medical diagnoses and prognoses.
